Andy Roberts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Andy is now a certified coach under the Mixed Martial Arts Conditioning Association. Plans are under way to add some conditioning/fitness classes to the schedule.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu British Open takes place on 18th/19th May at the NEC in Birmingham. I am going to compete and it would be great to ahve a team from the academy showing their skills.

It is a great weekend as it is part of the Body Power Expo so there is lots going on.

To give you all time to spend with your families the academy will be closed over the Easter Weekend. We will close on Good Friday March 29th and re-open on Tuesday 2nd April.

Enjoy the break and don’t eat too many eggs but if you do we can burn them off in no time!

Ultimate Fighting Championship and Jiu jitsu legend Royce Gracie will be at Andy Roberts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy on Tuesday 2nd April at 6pm. He will be taking a 2hr class with opportunities for photos and questions afterwards.

This is an opportunity not to be missed, a chance to train with a true legend of our sport.

Congratulations to Steve Thomasson on his 2nd place in his first ever powerlifting competition!

He bench pressed 157.5kg and deadlifted a whopping 260kg.

Academy instructor James Hardy was awarded his Brown Belt by Roger Gracie and Andy Roberts when Roger conducted his seminar.

James started at the very first class at Woking Leisure Centre in September 2007, he has shown great dedication and determination, training consistently, competing and winning at the highest level. He is a great asset to the academy.

The next stop for him is Black Belt!

ARBJJ fighters were in action last weekend.

Scott fought at Fusion Fighting Championship, unfortunately he lost to a more experienced opponent, he will be back in action in February and well done to his opponent.

Luke Kew, Jay Butler, Matt Whyton and AJ Russell all fought at Into the Cage in Andover.

Luke stopped his opponent in the first round after dominating the stand up with vicious leg kicks, securing the takedown, working to mount and striking until his opponent verbally submitted.

Jay defeated his opponent via a clinical display of Jiu Jitsu he took his opponent down, secured the mount, took the back and made his opponent submit to a Rear Naked Choke.

Matt Whyton fought a submission match against a much heavier and stronger opponent, he was caught in an ankle lock, almost secured a triangle but was eventually defeated with an Americana.

AJ Russell went to war with his opponent dominating the 1st rnd with strikes, takedown and back control. in the 2nd it was more of the same until AJ took his opponent down and forced the ref to stop it via GnP.

A fantastic night for everyone who fought and came to support, hard work gets the results you deserve and the academy is proud!!

Roger Gracie will be at the academy on Tuesday 27th November, this seminar will be outstanding. Roger is widely considered as the best Jiu Jitsu practioner having won the World Championships an unprecedented 10x at Black Belt and being the first and only person to win 3 Absolute titles (Open weight).

The seminar will cost £40, will replace the 6pm and 7pm classes and is not to be missed!

Sat November 3rd sees the academy hosting another Jiu Jitsu ace to teach a class.

11am for £30 gives you the opportunity to train with a fantastic instructor and champion and alos an inspiration as he has beaten not only many opponents in jiu jitsu but also cancer.
